Alien: 1979
Yesterday I watched “Alien” in anticipation of seeing “Prometheus” which takes place in the same universe. One of the things that impressed me the most was how the movie holds up after 30+ years. Most of the time the dialogue and sets worked for me. At other times, I just simply couldn’t believe I was watching a movie filmed in the 70’s.

Things I keep loving: MercuryApp
MercuryApp is a great web app for leaders who want to track their own productivity, engagement, or physical/emotional health. It’s also a great way to create a microjournal for a business trip, vacation, or a major decision. It’s not surprising that the first iOS app they’ve created is called “Should I Break Up With My Boyfriend.” Check it out on Apple’s App...

Dollar Shave Club
I’ve been shaving with my new razors for a few weeks now and can say that I’m impressed with what Dollar Shave Club is doing. If you do the math and it works out for you, I recommend getting your razors through the mail. Great product at a great price!

delete meeting in Outlook 2007 without sending...
Even if someone has declined a meeting, I can’t delete the meeting in Outlook 2007 without sending a cancellation out. The work-around: take Outlook offline (File/Work Offline), delete the meeting, send the cancellation, and then go to your Outbox and delete the cancellation notice. Then un-check Work Offline to take Outlook back online.

Things I keep loving: the Pomodoro Timer app
If you have devices that run iOS, consider purchasing the Pomodoro Timer for $0.99. It features a great UI, allows you to control the volume of the tick and the volume of the ding independently, and runs in the background if need be.  I use this app a few times a day and love it.

Things I keep loving: more on Pomodoro
I use the Pomodoro Technique on a variety of personal/professional projects. I always benefit from creating small wins while doing large projects, but here are some of the projects I always find myself doing in 25-minute periods of focused time: 1. clearing out my Inbox. 2. cleaning the kitchen. 3. editing 80-page word docs. 4. final prep before the courses I build go to QA to ship.

Things I keep loving: Pomodoro Technique
In their book Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard, Chip and Dan Heath write about creating small wins, and how important this is. Anyone who has ever used Flylady’s 5 minute room rescue knows how important small wins can be. Anyone who has used the Pomodoro Technique knows how helpful it is to create a small win in 25 minutes even if the project is seemingly insurmountable.  ...
