Cayucos
When I was growing up my family traveled to the central California coast a few times each year to get away for a weekend. Even now when we get a chance we go and have a blast together.
Besides Cambria one of our favorite towns to visit is Cayucos, which has a distinctive charm about it.
Not surprisingly it was recently featured in BudgetTravel’s list of America’s Coolest Small...

What does it mean? (Don't know)
Joe Posnanski has a great write-up of the baseball playoff game last night. Great stuff. Funny! I only watched the last out of the game, but with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth (with no hits - 2BB & 1HP) it was high drama.

App of the Day
I love this site - App of the Day - because they sift out mediocre apps and suggest great ones.
Apple likes to trumpet how many apps are currently for sale at the app store, but that number is irrelevant to me. Too much for me to sift through. Too much mediocrity.
App of the Day is one way I sift the store for great apps.

important ideas for Keynote & PowerPoint
Don’t even THINK about building a Keynote presentation without reading this first.
Olivia Mitchell has done an outstanding job of synthesizing very important data from research by Chris Atherton and others about how to not overload the brain’s auditory cortex and hack our ability to process images and words simultaneously. Great work here - and well worth reading.

creative wall clock
When I have a deadline or a meeting coming up, it’s helpful to repeatedly check what time it is.
When I need to dive into a project or a conversation, it’s helpful to not know what time it is.
Here is a wall clock for both of those worlds: it has a switch!

Leadership Principle: Support
In teaching leadership this fall there is so much ground to cover and seemingly so little time. This week I’m going to share the quotation with my class that I posted from the Peter King article, who interviewed Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton.
The support of a team leader by the head leader is critical to success, and I think the Broncos season (thus far 5 wins, no losses) is a testament...

disturbing news about oseltamivir phosphate
Yeah, I didn’t know what oseltamivir phosphate was either. But some disturbing news has come out about a study that taking drugs to combat the flu could theoretically create drug-resistant strains.

tech: the leader sets the tone
Josh Beroff recently wrote about the challenge of dealing with phones and mobile devices during a meeting. This big issue can be solved with good leadership. Put simply, the leader sets the tone. At the start of every meeting the leader should set the expectation for tech: what part, if any, should laptops be open, and what part, if any, should mobile devices be used.
At the start of every...

games without graphics
The appeal of a game for the visually impaired is a obvious, but there is a market sighted people as well. As an auditory guy, I would love a game that required me to navigate through the interface using only my ears to hear what is going on!
