the fate of Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile has lost market share despite being on the scene before anyone else, and a great analysis explains why. Reason #1 by analysts: design of apps is uninspiring, which is important when developing momentum with outside developers. A second reason: an open system, which means “from a developer perspective, that requires coding an app for several phones with different UI styles,...

100 Uses for Evernote
I recently flew into an airport and went directly to an event at a house I’ve never been to before.
I was e-mailed the directions, but instead of writing down the directions or tracking down a printer, I simply forwarded the e-mail to Evernote and pulled up the map on a mobile device once I landed. Nice.
Wondering what else you can do in Evernote? Here is a great article outlining 100...

on building momentum
I love this article on how “Twitter Used to Be a Crappy Idea” by Henrik Werdelin.
A conclusion: “So if you are doing your own new innovative start up, make sure you keep the cost LOW - it’s the only way for you to have time to change your product if it doesn’t work right away, or for you to keep working on it for the market to change so your vision is aligned with the...

bags fly free
Airlines are making millions of dollars by charging customers for bags. But I think there is a trade-off for this stupid move.
Why stick to a money-making strategy that (in my opinion) simultaneously angers and alienates customers? I do not get this at all. It boggles my mind.
Southwest Airlines, as reported by the Denver Post, does not charge for luggage and now flies more passengers than any...

"Avatar" Movie Review
Stunning, beautiful to watch, expertly executed.
I absolutely loved watching it in 3D, and not just the scenes on the alien planet. Even the non-alien scenes were fun to view three-dimensionally.
The story echoed so many different real-world themes in different ways that I had trouble disconnecting and just entering the story, but overall the film was great. If you can, see it in 3D!

more McD's?
American’s burned out on McDonald’s? Hardly…they are opening 150 new restaurants nationally and hundreds more overseas. Apparently the recession has been good to them. But 1,000 more restaurants? Wow. I’m at a loss for any more words.

early math
Cognitive development has always fascinated me. And some new research has shown that very little math is taught to preschoolers, far less than they can handle. Tradition can keep educators stuck in old ways. Click here to read about how kids are ready to learn math earlier than may people realized.

workshop as a tool for improvement & heart-check
Recently my wife engaged her students in a workshop session.
Workshops are an obvious tool for improving work and getting perspective from others. But the hidden reality is that the process of having your work “workshopped” uncovers truths about ourselves that we rarely confront.
Read more about her thoughts here and important questions to ask yourself as your work is being...

The Voice
I’ve really been enjoying reading “The Voice,” a new translation/retelling of the New Testament that reads a bit like a screenplay.
The introductions to the text really add a lot, especially for people not familiar with the Bible. It’s a fascinating project that will help a lot of visually-oriented people, and for a brief time it is free at the Kindle store.

victim vs. opportunity
When unforeseen changes happen, it’s easy to adopt a “victim” mindset that entrenches itself deeply in one’s heart. I’ve met countless people in this category.
I loved this news story about individuals who moved past victim to an “opportunity” mindset. Their dreams changed. But their success did not.
