This video of under-sea creatures is astounding. If you hang on ‘till the end you’ll see how an octopus can match pattern, color, brightness and texture of its surroundings. Amazing!

Great Way to Spend a Few Hours
Last night I saw online that there were still a few seats left for the first night of the “Phantom” touring company’s run in Denver. An hour before showtime I decided to drive downtown and buy a ticket.
The cast was great, and never stronger than when singing duets in melody and harmony. And as the title character, John Cudia gave one of the best vocal performances I’ve...

HPV, smoking, etc.

netbooks cannibalizing PC sales?
Here’s an interesting article from Apple Insider about how the sale of netbooks may cannibalize PC sales. Analysts expect over 20 million netbooks to be sold in 2009 but these can’t run Windows Vista or Windows 7.

flocking to the familiar
Time recently featured an article about how in the current economic crisis people are eating at family restaurants less and eating fast food more. But why is McDonald’s doing better than other fast food restaurants? The article points to business principles but I believe that it’s because it is inexpensive and familiar. They don’t just want cheap food, they want cheap comfort...

advance from a retreat
I had an awesome opportunity this weekend to help facilitate a retreat for a small group of college students. I may post a photo or two from the experience soon.
I love retreats, but hate the name - rather than “retreating,” for me getting away for a solid chunk of time helps me re-focus and be reminded of what is important and what is extraneous. I’m so far ahead of where I...

comfort and skills
The same tragedy can happen to two different people with two different results. Therefore, as the Church in the US walks with people through a difficult economic crisis we must not solely rest on a therapeutic model (God as comfort). We can also teach skills.
USA Today recently described how the crises is affecting families and cited a study by a Social Ecology professor at UC Irvine who found...
