Dear John
The movie had flaws but my favorite scene was 1:15:30-1:22. If you don’t want to watch the whole movie, just stream it on Netflix and watch these seven minutes. It intrigued me that they set the scene in a hallway. Very interesting choice (by either the author or the screenwriter).

economic growth
I was at a major area mall in CO the Saturday before Thanksgiving and it was slammed. And the people there were buying things. A lot of things. I knew instantly that the economy was improving. I didn’t need the news to tell me, or economic studies. All I needed to see was people buying things - a ton of things - five days before black Friday.

kinect meets MLB?
http://is.gd/hu2tC The implications of motion-capture technology and baseball are really interesting, especially if they can prevent injuries to little-league and high-school players who otherwise would have had a shot at the majors.
