weisure
More and more Americans are blurring the lines between work and play - called weisure - and checking their social networks during meetings, checking their e-mail during family time. The definition of being “fully engaged” is changing. I don’t have some profound statement to make on this - partly because I don’t think it’s always or necessarily a bad thing. But maybe that’s because I know how to fully unplug from fun and dive face-first into a work project when that’s called for. And I know how to completely unplug from work and dive face-first into a workout or family time. To combat the issue when it becomes a problem we should recognize it, name it, and then plan for it. Why not schedule meetings and family times where a certain portion of it is a laptop & phone free zone, and the rest of it is understood as multi-task oriented?
