stupid praise

Kathryn Bigelow recently became the first female director to win the Directors Guild for The Hurt Locker. She was praised by fellow directors, but one comment stands out in my mind, and not in a good way.

Director Lee Daniels was quoted in USA Today as saying, “Kathryn, your movie is as beautiful as your legs.”

By connecting her work to her appearance Daniels places himself in a long line of men who undermine the credibility of women in this way. Sad.
